Assessments of efficacy of Tab Kurchiko (Kudakalpa) in the management of dravmalapravrutti ( Diiarrhoea)


Title: Assessments of efficacy of  Tab Kurchiko (Kudakalpa) in the management of dravmalapravrutti
( Diiarrhoea)  

Dr. Asavari Manvikar had submitted her dissertation to Pune University for the P.G. degree M.D. (Kaya Chikitsa). Her guide was Prof. Dr. P. H. Kulkarni & Research center was Tilak Ayurved Mahavidyalaya, Pune. (M.S.) India.

          Dr. Asavari Manvikar in her research work tried to assess efficacy of Kurchiko (Kudakalpa) in the management of diarrhoea.

           For this study she had enrolled 50 patients of diarrhoea. Patients having symptoms like high grade fever, blood in stool, severe pain in abdomen, severe vomiting & dehydration & patients under the age of one year are excluded for the present research work. Random sampling was done patients were divided into two groups.
Group A – Patients treated with kurchiko

1) Sub group 1 with high dose = 4 Tablets of 250 mg thrice a day 2) Sub group 2 with low dose = 2 Tablets of 250 mg thrice a day.
Group B – Patients treated with placebo. 20 patients were included in this group.
Vehicle used was lukewarm water.
Kala utilized is morning, afternoon & evening. Duration of treatment was 3 to 5 days,
          Placebo used was homeopathic diskets of 250 mg. 
Criteria for assessment was as follows-
a)     Decreased Frequency of stool.
b)    Decreased volume of stool.
c)     Improved consistency of stools.
Scoring system of severity index was as follows-
Absence of symptoms = Grade 0
Minimum symptoms = Grade 1
Medium symptoms = Grade 2
Severe symptoms = Grade 3
Dravamala Pravartan in 24 Hours
Severe > 6 times
Medium = 4-6 times.
Minimun = 2-4 times.
Sam mala = grade 4
Alpa sama = grade 2
Niramala = grade 0
Total cure = Grade I & Consistency 100% Improved
Partial cure = Grade II & Consistency 50% Improved
No cure = Grade III & Grade IV Consistency < 50% Improved

The above research work was concluded as follows.

Tab Kurchiko of Ayurved Rasashala ,Pune ,in a dose of 2 tab
( Tab of 250 mg) TDS ,with luke warm water was found effective in controlling loose motion with mucus

The high dose of ‘Kurchiko’ 4 tabs three times / day gives excellent results besides constipation & flatulence.
The low dose of ‘Kurchiko’ 2 tabs three times / day gives nice result without any side effects.
Kurchiko is more effective in Kaphaja dravmala pravrutti.
