Title:- Shotha & Guda-Ardraka yoga (
Use of Jaggery with Fresh Ginger in Oedema)
Dr.
Patil had submitted his/her dissertation to Pune University
for the P. G. degree M.D. (Kaya Chikitsa) in the year 1988. Guide was Dr. M. G.
Oak & Research center was Tilak Ayurved Mahavidyalaya, Pune, (M.S.) India.
Dr.
Patil in his/her research work tried to evaluate effect of Guda-Ardraka yoga
(jaggery + Zinzibar officinale) on oedema (shotha).
For
the study scholar used 4 gm jaggery and
4 gm of fresh Ardraka in the
increasing quantity. On 10th day 10 gm & from 11th to
30th day 10 gm quantity was decided. The drug was administered every
morning between 6 to 7 with lukewarm water.
For
clinical study 34 patients were divided into three groups.
Group I – 16
patients treated with only Guda-Ardraka.
Group II – 10
patients consuming other medicine + Guda-Ardraka simultaneously.
Group III – 8
patients first treated with other medicines & then medicine with Guda-Ardraka.
Clinical trial was concluded as follows-
When 4 gm jaggery and 4 gm of fresh Ginger
was used every morning with luke warm water , in the
increasing quantity ( On 10th day-- 10 gm & from 11th to 30th
day 10 gm quantity was given) found useful to reduce oedema ,specially in Kapha
Biotype patients .
The drug was effective in kapha
prakruti. 43.75% patents were benefited by the drug & 62.50% patients were
benefited by the medicines used along with Guda-Ardraka yoga.
