Title:-The study of efficacy of Dashamuladi kashaya with Eranda sneha in Gridhrasi ( Sciatica)

          Dr. Bhagyashree Pailwan had submitted her dissertation to the Pune University in the year 2007, for the P.G. degree M.D. (Kaya Chikitsa). Her guide was Dr. Anupama Shimpi & Research center was Tilak Ayurved Mahavidyalaya, Pune (M.S.) India.

          Dr. Bhagyashree Pailwan in research work tried to study the efficacy of Dashamuladi decoction with Castor oil in sciatica (Gridhrasi). She had enrolled 30 patients diagnosed as sciatica. Dashamuladi decoction with castor oil was administered orally for 21 days. The dose of Dashamuladi decoction was 60 ml & castor oil was 10 ml.

Assessment criteria was as follows –

1)    Method of assessments of pain by Oxford pain chart. Severity of pain management was as follows-    i) Severe grade- 3,
ii) Moderate grade- 2,
iii) Mild grade -1,
iv) No pain – grade 0.
Pain relief measurement -        Complete – grade 4,
Good – grade 3,
Moderate grade 2,
Slight – grade 1,
No relief - grade 0
Severe pain – Patient is unable to perform any movement.
Moderate pain – movements are possible but continuous pain during movement.
Mild Pain – Pain precipitating time to time
The relief in intensity of pain according to oxford pain chart was calculated using the formula.
  Percentage of pain relief = IPo – IPL   X 100
                                                   IPo
2) SLR angle.  
3) Visual analog scale.
4) Walking time.

          Above research was concluded as follows

After receiving Dashamuladi decoction 60 ml with castor oil 10 ml   orally for 21 days patients get relief from the symptoms of Sciatica

 Effect of research drug given orally in the morning is found to be effective in sciatica.
          This yoga is significantly effective in vataja Gridhrasi as well as vata kaphaja Gridhrasi (Sciatica)

          All ingredients of this yoga are easily available. It is cost effective. No adverse side effect of the drug was noted.
