Title: The study of efficiency of shashilekha vati in shivtra vyadhi(
Leucoderma)
Dr.
Kavita W. Lanjewar had submitted her dissertation to the Pune University
in 2006 for the P.G. degree M.D. (Kaya Chikitsa). Her guide was Dr. Sadanand V.
Deshpande & Research center was Tilak Ayurved Mahavidyalaya, Pune (M.S.) India.
Dr.
Lanjewar in her research tried to study the efficiency of Shashilekha vati in leukoderma. Shashilekha tablet
was prepared as per the reference from the book Yogaratnakar in the topic of kushtha Chikitsa. This tablet mainly contains
mercury, sulpher, Bakuchi, copper.
Tablet was prepared weighing 125 mg each. Chronic animal toxicity study was
done at National toxicity center (NTC, Pune)
For
clinical trials study design was randomized single blind controlled two groups of leukoderma were prepared,
each containing 30 patients.
Group A
was given Shashilekha vati 125 mg. tds with Bakuchi taila & honey as a
vehicle (Anupana).
Group B was
given Yahtimadhu (Glyceriza Glabra) tablet 125 mg tds was given with lukewarm
water. Treatment period was minimum 49
days with regular weekly follow up.
Efficiency
parameters were
i)
Re pigmentation, ii) measurement of
lesion, iii) Visual analogue scale.
Regimentation
– classified into four types
a) Marginal –
when predominant repigmentaion was from the borders of patches.
b) Perifollicular –
When predominant repigmentaion was follicular.
c) Diffused –
When there is generalized darkening across the patches of leukoderma.
d) Combined –
Which does not fit into any above single type or when more than one pattern
continued to the pigmentary process.
II) Re-pigmentation was
recorded as Grade 0 = No change , Grade 1 = minor change ( 25%) , Grade 2 =
moderate change ( 50%) , Grade 3 = marked
change ( 75%) , Grade 4 = Complete re pigmentation ( 100%) .
III) Measurement of area of lesion – The patches was traced on the paper
with pencil. These tracings were kept on graph paper & again these tracings
of patches were traced on graph paper. Total squares of graph paper covered by
tracing were counted & total area was calculated. The photographic records
were kept.
IV) Visual analog scale –
This was used to assess two parameters mentioned in Ayurvedic text, namely
itching (Kandu) & burning sensation (Daha).
Above research work is concluded as
follows –
In Patients receiving Tab Shashilekha 125 mg. tds with Honey & Bakuchi taila externally ,
i)
There
was significant re pigmentation in treated lesion & reduction in
total area of lesion.
ii)
Control
group showed very poor result as compared to treated group.
iii)
It
is observed that out of 30 patterns in drug group, which were taking shashilekha
tablet , 19 patients had marked to complete
repigmentation, 7 patients had marked repigmentation, 3 patients had moderate repigmentation and only
1 patient had minimum
repigmentation.
